This is considered one of the most powerful botanicals of the Amazon’s Peruvian rain forest. The indigenous peoples have many uses for it, ranging from an immune system tonic to headaches, colds, flu, and fevers to the treatment of acute conditions like gastrointestinal problems (especially colitis, IBS, Crohn’s disease and ulcers), as well as tumors, arthritis, fibromyalgia, asthma and cardiovascular diseases. Cat’s-claw is also a rich source of ‘proanthocyanidin’ (more commonly known as ‘pycnogenol’), which is a powerful anti-oxidant and free radical scavenger.
