Pleurisy Root is used for treating lung conditions such as pleurisy, painful breathing or an inflammation of the pleural cavity, pneumonia, acute bronchitis and chest congestion with thick mucus and fevers accompanied by tight chest conditions. The beneficial part of the Osha plant is the root, which has long been used and considered sacred by Native Americans for cold, cough, and other respiratory ailments. The root contains oils, including camphor, saponins, ferulic acid, terpenes, and phytosterols. Because of these, Osha root is, arguably, the best American herb for lung and throat problems. Borage has soothing effects plus the ability to reduce inflammation and detoxify the body. It is known to help heal the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. Elecampane has been used to treat chest congestion and bronchial coughs; it helps expel mucus and control excessive coughing and chest congestion and it has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties. It helps relieve the symptoms of bronchitis, asthma, croup, and chest congestion. Fenugreek helps dissolve hardened masses of accumulated mucus in the body. It helps rid the lungs of mucus and the bronchial tubes of phlegm. Feverfew is used to reduce inflammation and congestion of the lungs. Hyssop is good for lung ailments such as bronchitis, chest congestion, hay fever, tuberculosis, and asthma. It helps relax and expel phlegm from the lungs and relieves coughing. Isatis has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It has anti-viral properties and is effective when there is infection in the lungs.

  • Ingredients: Pleurisy Root, Osha Root, Borage, Elecampane Root, Eucalyptus Leaf, Fenugreek Seed, Feverfew, Hyssop, Isatis, Hunney Rooibos, Sunshine Lemon Rooibos, and Thyme Leaf. HERBAL DECOCTION: Place 1 ¼ cup of water in pan with 1 ½ tsp. roots, heat slowly and simmer covered for 10-15 minutes. The longer you simmer the herbs, the stronger the tea will be. Strain into a cup and serve.
